其可執行檔名為 sh，通常位於 /bin/ 底下，為 UNIX 的標準配備，也是 root 預設的 shell。Bourne shell 可以用來寫結構化的程式語言，也提供了很強大的 I/O 控制，但很不適合被拿來當成login shell，因為其缺乏應有的交互性。
